I enjoyed the laughing and spunk we get to see in
our mentees during circle up time, when
we share about the day

One of my favorite moments was during our final outing–my mentee received all of his own gear to keep. He was so excited and said he couldn’t wait to use his new gear to teach his cousin how to fly fish.

I was raised on the beaches of Florida’s east coast but wasn’t introduced to fly fishing until moving to Seattle in 2010. Fly fishing came to me during a time when I needed some peace within and has been my place of refuge ever since. When I am outside and on the water I find my calm place and am able to clear my head of all my worries. I’d love for everyone to have that ability to find comfort outdoors while being stewards of our waters and fish.
I retired from a hectic and stressful career as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2019 and now enjoy working in my garden, raising my daughter and fishing every chance I get!

A Washington native that taught himself how to fly fish at 10 years of age after moving from the family farm in Washougal to Goldendale, Washington. He attended Western Washington University where he met his wife Trish.
They ended up in Covington, Washington and raised two boys who both enjoyed sports, music and the outdoors.
Stacy is currently employed by GCI of Alaska as a telecom engineer and has 28 years in the industry.
He has coached grade 3-9 boys basketball and football as well as some grade school co-ed teams. He mentored high school boys and girls at his local church youth group for 8 years.
He is excited to mentor foster kids in the hopes they find a life-long passion that brings them happiness.

I’ve been fly fishing for 25 years, been a casting instructor much of that time. I typically fish 80 to 100 days a year and love everything about this passion. I fish, tie flies and build rods as well.I’ve fished all over Washington and Montana and love to dry fly fish for trout. I fish for steelhead and sea run cutthroat trout and really anything that swims. I love to bring new people into the sport and have worked in the industry for 6 of the last 14 years. I have taught casting classes with Orvis even before I worked in the industry! I look forward to helping kids with my passion for fly fishing and get them into the outdoors and the beauty it involves! |

Hey y’all! My name is Hunter Mitchell and I am originally from Mississippi. After doing some growing up down there I moved to Seattle in 2019. I quickly rekindled my interest in backpacking which led to an increased interest in visiting alpine lakes which, I noted, often held many fish. It wasn’t long before I wanted to try this whole fly fishing thing and hooked my first trout at an alpine lake. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since! When I’m not finding ways to spend too much time fishing you can find me working for the US Department of Labor OSHA, where I work as a Whistleblower Investigator. Looking forward to my role as a mentor for the Seattle Mayfly Project!

Born and raised in Washington, I’ve always had a deep love for the outdoors. That passion grew through years of backpacking across the state, until a few fly fishers introduced me to a whole new world that completely changed my life. What began with fly fishing high alpine lakes has grown into a lifelong passion that now takes me everywhere—from rivers and lakes to the open ocean.
Alongside my love for the outdoors, I serve as a Pastor at Encounter Church, where I’m passionate about helping build a stronger and more connected community. One of the ministries closest to my heart is our foster care ministry, where we seek to support and care for vulnerable families and children.
Becoming a mentor with Mayfly Project felt like the perfect intersection of both passions—investing in young people through the healing, adventure, and connection that fly fishing and the outdoors can provide.
