Millbrook, New York Project

The Mayfly Project is a selfless and caring initiative focused on kids that deserve a leg up in life. I can’t wait see this project come to life in Millbrook and to play a part in giving these children hope, support and confidence, all through an immersive experience with nature.

PETER MURPHY, LEAD MENTOR

Millbrook, New York

I grew up in the UK and moved to the US in 2008 with my wife Jaime, originally living in Boston, MA and then moving to the Hudson Valley, NY in 2016. My work has been focused on Human Resources and Talent Management and I currently manage the leadership hiring for BNY Mellon in New York. Over recent years I have been involved in our local community as a board member of a local charitable preschool improving access to high quality preschool education for members of our local community. More recently I have been learning to fly fish some of the beautiful rivers of the Hudson Valley, NY. I look forward to participating in this amazing project and giving others the opportunity to enjoy nature through fishing experiences.

STEPHANIE SERITELLO, MENTOR

Millbrook, New York

Stephanie grew up in New York’s Hudson Valley but didn’t start fly fishing until she moved out west after college. She spent several years exploring incredible native trout habitat in California and the Southwest before coming back to her roots. Some may call her obsessed with all things fish but she prefers passionate. She is thrilled to share her love for rivers and the outdoors with the incredible children of the Mayfly Project!

SARAH BAKER, MENTOR

Brewster, New York

A New York native, Sarah grew up in the Hudson Valley spin fishing for trout with her father and grandfather. In 2003 she found an old fly rod in the basement, from here history has been writing itself. A self taught angler, Sarah has been using flyfishing to escape the stress from her 19 year career in emergency services. Sarah promotes diversity on and off the water. A MidHudson TU member, a Casting for Recovery Upstate NY Volunteer, and Juliana’s Angler sporting club member, and Twin Tier Five Rivers FFI member. Sarah has many passions in life, one is making “Life Casting Friends” on and off the water! Sarah is more then excited to jump into her new role as mentor for The Millbrook Mayfly Project!

ERIC DE LE COVA, MENTOR

Millbrook, New York

Eric began fly fishing in the early ’90 s when a friend gifted him a fly rod. Apparently the first one is free. Living in NYC, he learned to cast on the ponds on Central Park. Venturing out to the tailwaters of the Croton Watershed and eventually the Upper Delaware River he learned by trial and a lot of error to understand the ways of the trout. Adopting a “match the hatch” philosophy he tuned his life to the cycles of aquatic insects and the pursuit of the well timed intersection of angler and opportunity. Eventually finding his home pool in the heart of the Catskills his fishing life and his life life closely merged. He learned mentoring as a Scout leader teaching hiking, backpacking, and camping. Being a fishing mentor is the best.

RORY LISEFSKI, MENTOR

Millbrook, New York

I grew up in Fallsburg NY 2 miles from the Neversink River. My father would take me spin fishing in several of the area streams and I can still remember the first trout I caught. I didn’t take up fly fishing until after I moved away but make frequent returns to both visit family and make some casts.
I am passionate about tying, exploring new waters, and passing along the hobby to new individuals. Working with the Mayfly project allows me to do all of those things as well as promote a future of inclusiveness in the sport.

NANCY MONTGOMERY, MENTOR

Millbrook, New York

Nancy grew up exploring the streams around her home in the Hudson Valley, always with a rod in hand—whether it was a simple stick with monofilament and a hook or one of her brothers’ spin rods. Her love for fishing was clear from an early age. Later, she discovered fly fishing as a way to heal from trauma, and it became a passion that she now shares with others. Nancy enjoys mentoring at the Trout Town Flies women’s clinic and is honored to guide the children of the Mayfly Project.
