Fort Collins, Colorado Project
“If I can help even one child find the kind of peace and love and respect for nature and rivers and fish that I have, even just a fraction of that, I feel I would be doing the world a great service.”

“In today’s world, it’s so important to teach kids outlets to learn how to manage their emotions and to prioritize their mental health. For our Fort Collins project, we made it a point to always have important discussions about why fishing is not only fun, but a great way to handle the day to day stresses of school and a sometimes unpredictable home life. All the kids took this to heart and we could see them growing each session.”

Matt Meyer, Mentor
My name is Matt Meyer, and I’m from Windsor, Colorado. I’ve always had a passion for fishing, especially freshwater and stream fishing throughout Northern Colorado. I enjoy fishing everything from the Big Thompson River to the Poudre River, as well as alpine lakes in Rocky Mountain National Park. For me, fishing has always been a meaningful way to slow down, connect with the outdoors, and share time with others. I’m excited for the opportunity to work with foster youth in our area through The Mayfly Project and to share my love of fishing, the outdoors, and the lessons that come from time spent on the water.

Ben Derby, Mentor
Ben was born with an insatiable drive to learn and achieve. It was in the desert that Ben discovered an unexpected new passion: fly fishing. Inspired by the classic film A River Runs Through It, he quickly fell in love with the tranquility and challenge of the sport. When he’s not working, you’ll likely find him flying above the stunning desert landscape, captivated by the views as he works toward earning his instrument rating. With a combination of passion, humor, and an eye for detail, Ben is sure to make every experience unforgettable.
Chris DiBiase, Mentor
A New York native, Chris grew up fishing in upstate New York with his brothers and friends in the lakes and rivers near his hometown. He later moved to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado and now calls the Denver/Boulder area home. Chris is a commercial real estate advisor, helping companies grow both in Colorado and nationally.
He has spent many hours fishing Boulder Creek during college, as well as exploring the surrounding rivers of Colorado in pursuit of large trout. With a background in coaching youth sports and a passion for fly fishing, Chris looks forward to his role as a mentor in the Fort Collins Mayfly Project!
